Fellsmere Riding Club

Picture
The Fellsmere Riding Club was founded by local cowboys and their families in 1954. They would gather together at the current grounds and have potluck dinners.  At the time there was no arena so they would take ropes, tie them to trucks in a ring to form an arena, then buckout horses to break them.  They eventually bought the property of 28 acres in the late 50s. They built a small arena and started holding Cracker Day rodeos on the first Sunday of March every year. This event was a big deal throughout the area - all cowboys would come; spectators would back their trucks up to arena and sit on tailgates to watch.  This went on until approximately the mid 80's. Around the mid 80's new bucking chutes were bought and a concession stand and cook shack were built. The first stands were also bought. In the early 90's grandstands for the spectators were purchased. By the late 90's a new paneled arena was built. Every year a Cracker Day Rodeo has been held on the first Sunday since March 1955.

The Fellsmere Riding Club is a not for profit organization. The proceeds from the events held at the area go to insurance, taxes and holding events for famlies and children. The rest of the profits support the local 4h, recreation department, St Judes - bascially anything having to do with children.
